On Saturday 11 March 2023, AFC Bournemouth hosted Liverpool at Vitaly Stadium in the English Premier League. the match promised to be an interesting encounter as Liverpool beat Man Utd 7-0 previous game and the reds go for the obligatory 3 points against the bottom of the league table – AFC Bournemouth.

First-Half

Jurgen Klopp decided to start the match with the same offensive line that dismantle United’s defense last Sunday – Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah. Bournemouth began the game with Dominic Solanke and Philip Billing who is the leading goalscorer for the cherries this season.

The match started with the superiority of the guests from Liverpool, who controlled the ball and determined the pace of the game. In the first minutes of this half, the game was at the home team’s goal. The Bournemouth goalkeeper first saved Mohamed Salah’s left-footed shot from outside the box to the right corner in the 5′ minute. In the 6’th minute, Virgil Van Dijk’s header from the center of the box was blocked. Neto had to intervene decisively again in the 11th minute and save Darwin Nunez shot from outside the box.

Everyone expected Liverpool to score the first goal in this match but in the 28th minute, Bournemouth took the lead with a goal by Philip Billing who scored with a right-footed shot from the center of the box to the center of the goal. Dango Ouattara assisted with a cross for this opener.

Liverpool attempted to level up the score to the end of the first half but without success, and the half-time result was AFC Bournemouth 1 Liverpool 0.

Second-Half

In the first minute of the second half Philip Billing (Bournemouth) was shown the first yellow card. Liverpool continued to dominate over Bournemouth but it missed the chances for scoring one after another.

51′ minutes Jaidon Anthony (Bournemouth) was shown a yellow card for a bad foul.

In the 67′ minutes after VAR Checking the referee awarded a penalty kick for hand ball play in the penalty area by Adam Smith (AFC Bournemouth). But Mohamed Salah missed the penalty shot. Salah’s left-footed shot was close but misses to the left.

The match was delayed because of an Adam Smith injury.

Antonie Semenyou missed doubling the Bournemouth lead. Smenyou’s right-footed shot from the left side of the box misses to the right.

At the very end of the game 94’+, Cody Gakpo tried a shot from a difficult angle on the right but was too high, and Gapko failed to level up the score and secure a precious point for his team. The match ended with the final score: AFC Bournemouth 1 Liverpool 0.
